Program:
z/OS Track
Speaker:

Db2 is constantly evolving over the years, bringing new features with every new release. It might be hard for the developers and administrators to catch up with all the new useful technologies and possibilities. Often, even the features that are not brand new and that have the potential to help reducing the costs by improving the performance or making the application simpler, are not yet fully exploited.
This presentation will list and remind some features that might help application developers to use more power of the Db2 engine. The discussed topics will cover advanced SQL like the MERGE statement, SELECT from data change references, multi-row operations, lock avoidance techniques, built-in functions like GENERATEUNIQUE(), timestamp functions, and some other small tips. We will also cover highlighted features of Db2 12.
Objectives:
1. Review some of the new features brought through the Db2 releases.
2. Advanced SQL statements like MERGE, SELECT FROM table change reference.
3. Multi-row operations, cursors.
4. Lock avoidance techniques.
5. Several smaller tips using built in functions.

New way of accessing your enterprise data

Today, organizations face a proliferation of data types – different formats, structures, multiple platforms – growing in volumes and needing to be integrated faster to deliver the real-time insight required by business leaders. It’s a daunting challenge complicated by aging tools and outdated data architecture. But what if all your enterprise data could be accessed through a single API, use a single metadata model or catalogue, and utilize a single security model ? What about accessing such data with IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator ? You can add data from almost everywhere outside of Db2 for z/OS to the accelerator and access this data together. It doesn’t apply to relational data structures only, but also to non-relational data such as SMF records, IMS DBs or VSAM data sets to name only a few. This allows organizations to leverage data sources together that were never designed to be leveraged together in the first place. This session looks into existing capabilities, shares an update of latest enhancements and provides an outlook into the future

Db2 Analytics Accelerator – Advanced Data Refresh Option

Date:
Monday, 27 svibanj, 2019 - 14:00 - 15:00
Program:
z/OS Track
Speaker:
Eberhard Hechler

Clients are using the Db2 Analytics Accelerator with various data refresh options. This presentation is a deep dive into advanced data refresh strategies that are comprised of various techniques, such incremental update in conjunction with continuous replication, incremental update while LOADing data into Db2 for z/OS, and using the Db2 Analytics Accelerator Loader to load data into Accelerator shadow tables and Accelerator-only-Tables (AOTs). We explore advanced data refresh options to use the Accelerator to store SMF data into tables that are partitioned by range, and how the data can be managed and limited in size. These hybrid data refresh options enable clients to use the Accelerator in a much more flexible way for a much broader set of use cases.
