From ASCII to UTF-8: A Primer for a successful codepage conversion

Date:
Tuesday, 28 svibanj, 2019 - 15:00 - 16:00
Program:
LUW Track
Speaker:
Roland Schock

Database codepage conversion can be a tricky business. Beginning with a general overview of codepages, where they are specified and where conversion is done, we cover also collation orders and their performance impact. Then we discuss the conversion process itself, including pitfalls, where the app vendor stores strings in different codepages, unknown to Db2. This requires special export/load considerations. The audience will learn how to do a successful conversion.

Deploying Db2 in a Kubernetes Environment

Date:
Tuesday, 28 svibanj, 2019 - 14:00 - 15:00
Program:
LUW Track
Speaker:
Mark Murnane
Kubernetes clusters have become the default deployment environment for many IT organisations in both private and public cloud deployments. While Kubernetes has its origins application orchestration, it is equally useful for Db2 deployments.
This session will examine how to deploy Db2 in a Kubernetes environment using Docker containers. While the fundamentals are the same, how to provide storage, manage networks and ensure high availability are different in Kubernetes.
These options open new possibilities for flexible, agile Db2 deployments.

db2mon – fast database health-check with new light-monitoring tool

Date:
Tuesday, 28 svibanj, 2019 - 11:45 - 13:00
Program:
LUW Track
Speaker:
Marcin Marczewski

Performance is a crucial thing for each database. Frequent health-checks are required in critical environments. During this presentation we will discuss db2mon – a tool (script) used for light-monitoring of your Db2 database. Step by step the tool would be run and results analyzed.

Db2 optimization profiles – tell the optimizer what to do

Date:
Tuesday, 28 svibanj, 2019 - 10:15 - 11:30
Program:
LUW Track
Speaker:
Marcin Marczewski

Db2 comes with a smart query optimizer which tries to execute every query with best access plan. How to tell the optimizer what to do? Which join method to use or at which optimization class run your queries for a specific session? During this presentation we will discuss how optimization profiles can be created and maintained. Optimization guidelines with examples will also be covered.

Db2 for AI - Leveraging Db2's analytic functions for faster Data Science

Date:
Tuesday, 28 svibanj, 2019 - 09:00 - 10:15
Program:
LUW Track
Speaker:
Mark Murnane
In Data Science the 80/20 rule means spending 80% of time preparing data and 20% actually using it. With so many organisations looking to use Data Science/Machine Learning/AI making more efficient use of time is vital.
Another dimension of this problem is the volume of data to be processed. Better input leads to better models, but for analysts and scientists access to the full data set isn't always practical.
This session will explore how to use Db2 to enhance data exploration using built-in capabilities such as Principal Component Analysis and K-means clustering, and apply it to the entire data set. We'll also cover using
Db2 with languages such as Python, and common tools such as Pandas.

Developing Db2 for z/OS Applications using RESTful APIs

Date:
Wednesday, 29 svibanj, 2019 - 11:30 - 12:30
Program:
z/OS Track
Speaker:
Steve Thomas

One of the most important trends in Application Development over the last few years has been the explosion of interest in using RESTful APIs. This session will eplain why this has happened, the benefits and drawbacks of using RESTful APIs and how Db2 for z/OS now provides strong support for using them in your own applications. We’ll then provide a step by step instructions of what you need to do to develop your own Db2 for z/OS applications using RESTful APIs, using a simple example as a guide.
