ITIL methodology is putting a whole new perspective on IT department, its responsibilities and roles as a business unit. The difference between traditional view of IT and the view according to ITIL is a movement toward more proactive and organized IT department. Roles, responsibilities, functions, defined processes and process owners are all aligned for one purpose, to offer IT Services that will support business processes while delivering maximum value to customers.
The shift from theory to “real life” is a bit more complex. How to introduce the “service management” perspective, how to organize processes, where to start first, what can be expected and what obstacles should you be prepared for, are questions you need to answer. BMC has the answers; with their view of ITIL in small and medium businesses they provide the solutions that will enable IT to deliver services in an efficient way while maximizing value for the customers and the business.

The Dynamic Statement Cache in DB2 has the potential to greatly improve performance for dynamic SQL. As with most things, there are tradeoffs and costs to be considered with this DB2 feature. Meanwhile, the implementation of the cache often changes from release to release. This technical session will discuss the Dynamic Statement Cache to help you understand how the cache is implemented, the contents of the cache and how you can mine the statistics stored there, potential benefits and costs of the cache, including potential issues related to use of the Dynamic Statement Cache.

Metadata stored in the DB2 Catalog is very well known and easy to interrogate using SQL. However, at run time, DB2 makes extensive use of the other primary DB2 system database, the Directory or DSNDB01. This presentation describes the contents of the Directory, explains how to look at its contents, and discusses how you can improve your overall system performance and recovery times by paying a little more attention to this often forgotten resource.
