Utilize machine learning for proactive issue identification and resolution

Anomaly detection and root cause analysis of problems in Db2 for z/OS is complex. There are monitoring tools for Db2 that helps to determine when there are performance issues and provide great detail in helping the user to identify a root cause. But, the process can still be challenging for both, inexperienced and experienced DBAs. Db2 AI for z/OS (Db2ZAI) offers the ability to identify early symptoms of performance issues by leveraging machine learning to discover unusual performance events and provide a set of recommended actions to improve the situation. Even better, it provides a RESTful API to integrate this functionality into the above mentioned monitoring tools.

Db2 and the masters of time

Date:
Friday, 10 April, 2020 - 14:00 - 15:15
Most of the data we work with is time dependent and we need to go beyond past and present data for better reporting. In this presentation, we'll learn about Time Series Analysis using Python open libraries using Db2 monitor data to explore on common questions we're often required to report.

From Db2 daily reports to app performance meetings, most of the data we work with is time sensitive. We're often being asked what's going to happen next and when, and that's when we need to extrapolate from our Db2 data to get insights and go beyond our monitor data. In this presentation, we’ll look into a few Statistical and Machine Learning concepts applied to Time Series Analysis with Python open libraries that can be quickly used to provide meaningful insight in Db2 monitoring. This presentation will also be focused on how the use of techniques like this can bring additional value to the DBA departments.

Anomalize this

Date:
Friday, 10 April, 2020 - 11:45 - 13:00
Anomaly detection is a trendy topic, and it is something that can be quickly explored by ourselves whether it's for your weekly Db2 trends report, monitoring or capacity planning. Db2 12 for z/OS provides a couple built-in functions that can be used for this purpose and for quick Exploratory Data Analysis, enabling people to do more analytical work within their daily roles.

On this presentation, we will take a look at several ways to do Anomaly Detection by ourselves and have an overall view of what these alternatives offer, tips and gotchas. We'll begin using pure Db2 SQL and then move to Data Science tools using Python Jupyter Notebooks.

From Db2 to Data Science

Date:
Friday, 10 April, 2020 - 10:30 - 11:30
Managers of DBA departments face a common problem: Trying to find ways to give more value from their departments so that they're not seen as just DBAs.

The scope of daily DBA tasks needs to evolve to meet current’s trending topics, attract attention, promote the capabilities of their corresponding back end environments, and maybe integrate key factors that belong to other roles, therefore opening new opportunities. The field of Data Science is such field that invites to further exploration from all fields and roles, and with new possibilities it is compelling to understand it to integrate it into new projects.

In this presentation we’ll take some of the most common questions DBAs get around application monitoring and diagnostics, and answer them taking an approach of Data Science and Machine Learning: Ways to begin, viewpoints to consider, and approaches that can prove useful and open new opportunities.
