Protecting "The Crown Jewels" – Your Data

Date:
Monday, 12 June, 2017 - 14:00 - 15:00
Program:
z/OS Track
Speaker:
Andy Ward

This presentation will start by looking at why your application data is under threat and how hackers are no longer ignoring the Mainframe as a source of high value sensitive information. It will then move on to describe the features and functions, such as column level security, column masking, audit policies and trusted contexts, supplied out of the box with DB2 for z/OS to help automatically protect this sensitive and valuable data in your applications.

Applications around Mobile devices are becoming increasingly important in large enterprises with requirement of storing JSON in database. This presentation will illustrate the JSON storage model and SQL APIs to manipulate JSON data. We will also present the JSON enhancements we delivered in the services stream. With rapid adoption of JSON, we will share how customers use JSON in a real world scenario. Tips and pitfalls will be given to ensure a successful JSON solution in an agile application development model.

Data Scientist Applications with IBM Machine Learning for z/OS - including a Demo

Date:
Monday, 12 June, 2017 - 10:30 - 11:30
Program:
z/OS Track
Speaker:
Eberhard Hechler

IBM Machine Learning for z/OS provides the framework to enable IBM z Systems clients to create and deploy self-learning machines that continuously improve and adapt with each new interaction/transaction. A continuous feedback loop provides progressively better predictions and optimization of the models. As an on premise solution, clients are able to keep their mission-critical z/OS data in place while adding external data to generate holistic insight. This presentation describes the key technical aspects to develop new types of data scientist related applications on the z Systems environment. It will further highlight its integration with the DB2 Analytics Accelerator. The presentation will be complemented with a demo.

IBM Database Management Systems: Trends and Directions

Date:
Monday, 12 June, 2017 - 09:30 - 10:30
Program:

Speaker:
Namik Hrle
Business Analytics, Big Data and Systems of Engagement create new requirements that profoundly affect database management systems technology. Columnar orientation, in-memory databases, no-SQL stores, Spark and Hadoop integration are the key trends that have already proven their values in some of the most challenging application workloads. At the same time, traditional, relational database management systems are still irreplaceable foundations for a large majority of mission critical, core business applications.
Where do traditional IBM RDBMS offerings: DB2 for z/OS and DB2 for LUW fit in with these new technology trends and business requirements? What is IBM's strategy to remain the industry leader under the new conditions and to continue being the choice for the most demanding data serving workloads?
These questions will be answered in this keynote presentation which will discuss bringing together all data in all paradigms (transactional, analytical, unstructured, etc.).
