What and how can Analytics do things that are so hard for us human beings – examples from CA’s Mainframe Operations Intelligence solutions

Date:
Tuesday, 13 June, 2017 - 16:00 - 17:00
Program:
z/OS Track
Speaker:
Tom Juhl

Talking about Analytics and Machine learning is one thing, but where are the areas where it can give us answers that we would not have without? We will discuss some examples from a newly released solution from CA Technologies called Mainframe Operational Intelligence

DB2 System Profile Monitoring

Date:
Tuesday, 13 June, 2017 - 15:00 - 16:00
Program:
z/OS Track
Speaker:
Denis Tronin

DB2 System Profile monitoring is available as of DB2 9, but it is still not widely used and known. However this is a quite strong DB2 capability that can help with variety of situations: manage and monitor threads and connections, model DB2 production environment, tune application behaviour. This presentation will equip you with a good understanding of DB2 profiles in general, as well as when and how to best use them.

Big Data and the Watson Data Platform

Program:
z/OS Track
Speaker:
Les King

A look at how open source and surrounding ecosystem allow Big Data to be a core and synergetic part of our Watson Data Platform architecture

SLA – what the …… is it?

Date:
Tuesday, 13 June, 2017 - 11:45 - 13:00
Program:
z/OS Track
Speaker:
Zeljen Stanic

How to predict performance problem in design phase. This presentation will address DB2 for z/OS management and tuning. Should we start with the SLA expectations in design phase?. We will start with data modeling, database design, testing ... and what DB2 has with ITIL.

Building a Mobile Application using DB2 native REST services

Date:
Tuesday, 13 June, 2017 - 10:15 - 11:30
Program:
z/OS Track
Speaker:
Jane Man

Mobile is having a profound effect on core systems. This session looks at new technology being offered as part of DB2 for z/OS, which allows mobile applications to seamlessly access and integrate into your existing IBM DB2 z/OS servers. It positions existing z technologies and introduces a new RESTful interface created especially for mobile access leveraging the existing DB2 distributed data facility (DDF) capability, which includes thread pooling, and enclave classification.

The Data Lake with DB2 for z/OS and the DB2 Analytics Accelerator

Date:
Tuesday, 13 June, 2017 - 09:00 - 10:15
Program:
z/OS Track
Speaker:
Eberhard Hechler

The data lake is a solution for a system of insight that has gained strong momentum with clients. This presentation describes the deployment of a data lake in the context of z Systems analytics. Data lakes are usually associated with offloading large data volumes to an open source platform. We present DB2 for z/OS and the DB2 Analytics Accelerator deployment options with the data lake, and illustrate how the DB2 Analytics Accelerator enables more choices for making DB2 for z/OS and other z Systems data available for analytics while keeping z Systems within the analytics lifecycle. This limits data movement and performs analytics close to where the data originates and resides.

The Tracing Guide to the DB2 Galaxy

Date:
Monday, 12 June, 2017 - 16:00 - 17:00
Program:
z/OS Track
Speaker:
Denis Tronin

Have you ever wanted to understand the behaviour of your DB2 system, determine what is going right or wrong and why? DB2 tracing is one of the strongest, but least understood, mechanisms that is out there to answer exactly these questions. In this presentation you will get a solid understanding of DB2 instrumentation facility, you will be guided through the variety of DB2 traces and learn how they would help to address system monitoring and tuning challenges. You will also get familiar with the newest and most useful tracing capabilities introduced in the latest releases of DB2.

A Beginners guide to Locks, Latches, Claims and Drains in DB2 for z/OS

Date:
Monday, 12 June, 2017 - 15:00 - 16:00
Program:
z/OS Track
Speaker:
Steve Thomas
This session will provide an introduction to how data integrity is achieved within DB2 for z/OS by a variety of methods including Locks, Latches, Claims and Drains. Once you understand how this works we will describe how you can use this knowledge to improve performance and data availability in your applications while maintaining data integrity.
While being an important topic for all users of DB2, the session is primarily aimed at Application Developers and others who may not have been exposed to the detailed internals of DB2 operations. The intention is to explain how Locking works in simple terms and describe how you can exploit this without confusing you with all the gory details of the internals.
