Z Data and Lakehouse in Tandem: Find Out Which Pedals to Push and When

Date:
Wednesday, 4 junij, 2025 - 10:00 - 11:00
Program:
z/OS Track
Speaker:
Mateo Tošić

Db2 z/OS is a powerful beast on its own, but the recent advances in cloud and AI technologies indicate imminent potential for benefits from an external extra push in the right direction, given the right usecases. The main purposes for which a hybrid cloud setup is beneficial involve data integration and analytics. The possibilities are practically endless in terms of how to implement the actual data processing in the cloud, especially given the open format that lakehouse uses. So the main question remains: how to get the Z data efficiently and reliably available for the cloud applications. We will look into Data Gate as the natural answer to that question, given its high-performance load and replication capabilities of Db2® z/OS, IMS®, and VSAM data into watsonx.data®.

Jorn Thyssen
Distributed workload is becoming more prevalent, and for many customers it is a significant part of the overall Db2 for z/OS workload.
In this presentation we will recap the Db2 IFCID records available that allow you to monitor your distributed workload including new ones added since last year.
We will also dive into typical use cases, such as identifying badly behaving applications, e.g., not using TLS, using old drivers, and more.
We will also cover how to correlate the different trace records. For example, you might have identified a misbehaving application but want to know the user and IP address or vice versa.
Finally, we will show some examples of how to visualize the data into dashboards.
