Bio

Karl Fleckenstein is a Senior Technical Staff Member and the lead architect in the SAP/IBM DB2 for LUW development team. He is responsible for DB2 for LUW solutions within SAP applications. Karl joined IBM 1990 and worked as software engineer in several database related projects. He has more than 20 years of experience with DB2 and more than 15 years of experience with SAP basis and SAP Business Warehouse technology. Karl is a frequent speaker at IBM's and SAP's technical conferences and has published various technical papers with SAP/DB2 for LUW solutions.

Since DB2 11.1’s release in June 2016, we have made numerous updates enhancing functions and introducing new ones. Karl will kick it off with an overview of new features and enhancements in the latest release delivered in December 2016.
Here are the highlights:
- Further query and ETL performance improvements with BLU Acceleration
- DB2 native encryption HSM support
- Even greater Availability with faster DB2 crash recovery
- New configuration parameters in DB2 workload manager (WLM) to define resource entitlements and CPU limits for the entire database
- Increased Serviceability with monitoring extensions and larger log file sizes
- New O/S support and more

This presentation provides an overview of DB 11.1 release, which was delivered in June 2016.
Among the highlights are:
- Native encryption master key management with a single PKCS #11 keystore to manage encryption keys for many databases
- Simplified upgrade for pureScale and HADR environments, and other HADR functions
- DB2 Enhancements for very large databases
- MPP Scale Out with BLU acceleration
- BLU acceleration performance improvements
